Special Interests in Psychiatry
Interests in Psychiatry
Evolutionary Psychiatry
This is a branch of psychiatry that Dr Kibel believes is potentially beneficial in answering some difficult questions regarding mental illness.
It involves examining psychological traits such as memory, perception and language from a modern evolutionary point of view.
In particular, it is a branch of psychiatry that aims to identify which human traits and tendencies towards mental illness are evolved adaptations.
Addiction Psychiatry
This is a key area of interest for Dr. Kibel, focusing on diagnosing and treating addiction-related mental health disorders.
These include addictions to substances—both legal and illegal—or behaviours like gambling, sex, food and other impulse control issues.
I am an expert in addiction and substance abuse, with extensive experience treating complex, co-occurring psychiatric and addiction disorders.
These “dual diagnosis” cases involve individuals experiencing both addiction and mental illness, requiring integrated, specialised treatment for lasting recovery and mental wellness.
